Project Summary:
The Quo Vadis project explores the future of youth work in sport across Europe, building on the shared experience of five grassroots sports clubs and organizations. Through collaborative activities, it addresses how sport can better contribute to personal development, inclusion, and social innovation, particularly when youth work is supported by politics, science, and practice.
The project is delivered through three core work packages:
- Project Management – Coordination of the transnational partnership, monitoring, reporting, and communication activities
- Podcast Production – Creation of multilingual podcast episodes highlighting good practices, challenges, and strategies in youth sports work
- Networking Between Politics, Sport & Science – Hosting of educational and multiplier events that connect club practice with political actors and academic insight
Each partner organization contributes by hosting events, producing podcast content, and sharing their national experience. The project involves discussions with stakeholders, training sessions, and youth-focused public events in each country.
Coordination Conferences & Planning Meetings:
The project began with an online kick-off video conference (June 2023), in which partners reviewed goals, clarified collaboration structures (via an IPA), and committed to co-producing podcasts and hosting events. Coordination meetings, both virtual and in-person, helped maintain momentum and align content development throughout the project.
An educational training event in Munich (January 2024) helped develop media skills among participants. Led by media coach Birte Heckmann, participants received training in voice technique, storytelling, interview strategies, and narrative development, laying the foundation for podcast production.
These Coordination Conferences continues through out the project supporting the clubs in achieving the goals of this project.
Multiplier Events:
Each partner hosted a multiplier event to discuss a critical youth-sport topic and record podcast content. These events involved young people, local politicians, educators, parents, and club members, providing diverse perspectives and rich insights.
- Furuset, Oslo, Norway (May 2024):
Focus on sport as a preventive setting in youth work. Featured Marius Løken, survivor of a violent incident, speaking on trauma recovery and addiction prevention. - TSG Bergedorf, Hamburg, Germany (September 2024):
Explored public-private partnerships and funding models in youth sport, with a keynote by former NBA referee Boris Schmidt and active participation from local families and politicians. - SPORTUNION Tirol, Innsbruck, Austria (January 2025):
Addressed sustainability and climate adaptation in winter sports, with a keynote by Christian Lettner, linking sport to environmental awareness and alpine strategy. - Bekessy Bela Vivo, Debrecen, Hungary (April 2025):

Impact:
- Exchange of best practices in youth work and club development
- Enhanced visibility of sport as a social and educational tool
- Creation of a cross-European podcast series for knowledge transfer and awareness-building
- Strengthened cooperation between grassroots sports, policy makers, and academia
The results of Quo Vadis are intended to inspire other European clubs and stakeholders to innovate, collaborate, and invest in meaningful, sustainable youth engagement through sport. This project brought together hundreds of participants across Europe: club members, trainers, volunteers, policy makers, and young people—united by the belief that sport is a platform for change.
